Paul started life in Kyogle Queensland in 1956 as the youngest of four children. His parents, who were “10 pound Poms” understood the value of education and borrowed the money to send him to a private school.
After finishing as Dux of Camberwell Grammar, Paul went onto Melbourne University graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1978. While at University he started part time work under the guidance and watchful eye of Bob Ansett, the founder of Budget Rent a Car.
Paul worked his way up through the company and was Chief Accountant and Group Manager for Administration and Finance for the Budget Corporation over a 13 year period.
For the last 35 years he has been Managing Director and owner of the largest Budget Rent a Car Franchise Group in Australia.
20 years ago, with the knowledge that he had built a strong and loyal management team, he moved into the charitable field and now spends the majority of his time working in the “Not for Profit” sector.
Paul was awarded the Order of Australia medal in 2009 and the AM in 2017 for services to a range of children’s charities to which he has actively contributed. As well as being the patron of several charities, Paul is a Board Member of Life Education Australia Foundation, Blue Ribbon Day Community Board, He is a founding Board Member and Chairman of the Bali Children Foundation which, with his family via Wheelton Philanthropy provides an educational pathway for 8,000 plus disadvantaged Balinese Children. Wheelton Philanthrophy was awarded the inaugural Philanthrophy Australia International Philanthropy Award in July 2018 presented by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Paul is currently Campaign Chair for Guide Dogs Victoria $23million Capital campaign.
